McIvor Farm Origins

In 2010, Jason and Belinda began on McIvor Farm in Tooborac – on the corner of the Northern Highway & the Lancefield-Tooborac Road. In 2016 they expanded their property to the neighbouring blocks to now consist of 240 hectares (approx 500 acres).

Some of the land the farm sits on has been in Jason’s family for over 100 years and is the site of the historical ‘Hagan Family Butcher Shop’ (our farm gate shop today!).

 

Overview: How do we farm?

On McIvor Farm, we use a farming method called ‘regenerative agriculture’ which means we are focused on restoring the landscape’s function as a healthy ecosystem that results in sustainable production for animals and plants as well as an improved natural resource base that has healthy lifecycle with increased biodiversity and greater resilience.

 

The Regenerative Approach

Jason & Belinda work closely with Darren Doherty from Regrarians – he assists them with their farm planning and design.

From what we’ve observed ver many years now, McIvor Farm Foods’ Hagan family operation exemplifies the cutting edge of pasture-raised pig production in the world. Their rapid rotations do not remove all ground cover like so many operations around the world and their grassy woodland landscape is regenerating as a result. The production of omnivores is challenging and the Hagan’s are pushing the bar higher with their pasture cropping program to supplement the diet of the pigs in situ.
